Task 1 - Examination of images to convey atmosphere

Find a visual for each of the following; (it must convey one of the following):

A sense of mystery
This image shows an abandoned building which gives you a sense of mystery as it is completely empty. The position of the piece of furniture in the middle adds an eerie feeling to the scene. The colours in this photo are dark, gloomy and dull. The light slowly fades away giving a sense of mystery as to what is at the end of the hall way.

A clearly defined atmosphere
The atmosphere of happiness is shown through a smile. The bright yellow colour is to bring joy and the colourful background brings more joy to the image. The background is blurred to make you focus on the smiley face. The smiley face is in the middle of the image to make you concentrate on it and make you smile.

A specific style
The style of pop art is one that has become famous in the art industry. The block colours make the image easy to look at and show light and dark very well. The light is shown by block colour which then fades to dots and further to block colours to show shading. The artist has made the focal point to the left of the image so the background is visible, but at a low quality.

Something that attracts viewer’s attention
This image attracts attention because of the block colours used, the way they contrast on the page. The image is manipulated in such a way that the colours recreate the image and still keep the recognisability to the image. This image looks powerful because of the angle of the shot and that Barrack Obama is the first black president we catch attention by itself.

Something that provokes a strong reaction

This image would provoke a strong reaction as it shows the KKK, a racial group. Racism is something that is taking very seriously and this would offend many people. It takes the famous uncle Sam poster and uses it for a racial advertising for the KKK. The colours are very standard, blue, white and red, which are the colours of the american flag and people would be offended further. The layout has the image in the centre so it is main focal point. The image has the face blurred to possibly make you focus on the costume.

Something that sells
This image shows masculinity. He has a hard look and the bike adds to the masculinity. The bike and the open area shows freedom and this is what the fragrance is selling. It is selling a life style of freedom and strength.

Art work

Pop art

Pop art is art work that is based on modern popular culture and mass media.

Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol is one on the most famous artists in the world and is mostly known for his work in pop art.
The tomato soup piece has become iconic in pop art. It is instantly related to pop art. Its lines and colours are simple and not over complex which makes it easier on the eye for the viewer and it’s lines and colours are very much like the comic books at the time. It’s a very simple piece but incredibly recognisable which makes the pop art movement famous.
Roy Lichtenstein

Roy Lichtenstein creates pop art work in the style of old comic books. He has fame because of these classic style pieces which resemble pop art. The colours are very simple and nothing spectacular. the line are fine but harsh to give an emphasis speed and action. His work is very simple, but it is instantly understandable.

Graffiti art

Graffiti art is an art form that expresses freedom and some times in the case of Banksy, political views.

frank shepard fairey

Frank creates posters that are very simple and stand out. His work is very different because they some times don't have meanings and some times they do. His work differs from simplicity and detailed posters.

Banksy

Banksy is a graffiti artist who has become famous for his art work about political views. For example, this piece of work is about CCTV cameras being placed all over Great Britain and that we are being watched.

Task 3 - production of images to convey atmosphere

Confusion

With this piece, I have taken different images and put them in the window of the building. In the windows I put a butch of clowns, two cubs fighting and an owl. I feel that this is quite confusing as if you looked and saw this, you would be very confused.

Depression

With this piece I made the image dark as when people are depressed, they feel they are in a dark place and the building looks shabby and not uplifting.

Happiness

For the happiness emotion, I made this image bright and added a colourful text to make this image uplifting so it creates happiness.

Mystery

For mystery, I added a gradient from left to right to focus in on the silhouette on top of the building. I did this because I feel it is very mysterious having a silhouette on a building.

Anger

For anger, I made a scary angry dog. I used the brush tool which had its setting edited so it would create more of a fire effect along with the fire itself. I have made this image to make it look like the dog is angry.

Love

With this image I manipulated images to create a scene which shows the thoughts actions and of love. I did this because when people are in love, then often get married.

Task 4 - cartoon figures

Body language

Angry
Anger is seen as clenched fists, raised eye brows and screwed up faces with an aggressive mouth. The hair all over the place is showing that they are messing with their hair because they are angry in stead of hitting something.

Happy
With happy, the body is normally inviting. Arms out or raised is if they are celebrating, quite spread out and energetic.

Happy Cartoon figure

Depression
I feel that depression and sorrow are similar with people being hunched over heads in their arms and crunched up, wanting to be alone.

Sorrow
Sorrow can be seen through slouched or hunched over, head in hands to cover their face because they could be crying.

Sorrow cartoon figure

Love
Love is shown through, smiles, hugging, kissing and two people being close.
Love cartoon figure

Mystery
Mystery is often looked at as someone who is shifty, looking down, keeping their head down.

Confusion
Confusion is shown through raised eyebrows, looking up with your eyes, try to think. Also through hand on the head or biting of your finger nails.

Task 5 - Good and bad web banners

There are advantages and disadvantages to web banners. Some of the advantages to web banners are that they can depict more information through animation and attract more information to the viewer. Some of the disadvantages can be that the animation can look very busy and be distracting, some banners may look fake and dodgy. Key words: Interactivity, animation, icons and buttons.

Good web banner design

I think a good web banner should consist of simple, clean designs which is clearly linked to the clients site with the target audience in mind.

I feel that this web banner ad is very professional and clean. It looks a bit pack but it has a professional look to the advert. This advert is well placed and this ad has an option to close the ad.

this web banner is a clean ad which displays the products clearly with necessary information and links.

This web ad is not busy, it has a photo of healthy food which is inviting and has visible text , but the only thing wrong with this ad is the smaller text is hard to read.
This web banner ad uses its small ad well by displaying the product in the middle with company logos either side so you know what it is. It is not telling you to click anywhere it is just showing you a product which I think is more effective then having click here.

this Samsung ad is very relaxing because of the light colours used, also the text is easy to read. The product and the company are clearly displayed either side.

Bad web banner design

A bad web banner would be cluttered, untidy and hard to read. Also if the web banner does not link to the host web site.

This ad is an animated ad which goes through a sequence of photos and it takes too long to get too the final scene so the viewer will lose interest in the ad. The ad looks well presented but the ad was very long and uninteresting.

This web ad looks very unprofessional because the quality is very low and pix-elated and this ad is very in your face with big text every where.

This advertisement looks dodgy because It seems to good to be true that the information at the bottom can produce the outcome in the image. It just seems unrealistic and that it would lead you too a fake site as well.

THis web banner looks fake because they are using the apple logo to possibly pose as apple to give out free products. I cant see this happening and also this is an ad which bounces around so it is annoying.

This ad is very annoying as it pops when you are on a site and has a very fast animation which is a bit disorienting and the close button is extremely small.

Task 6 – Demos

Today we were given a brief demonstration on how to make a web banner link to a specific site.
We firstly placed a rectangle and turned it into a movie clip by holding ctrl, double clicking it and pressing F8. We then named it in the library and went to code snippets > actions > click to go to web page. when we did this we copied the link for the web page we wanted to go to and pasted it in the actions in between the speech marks. we then played the clip, clicked on the rectangle and it took us to the to web page of our choice.

Flash animation: ripple

Firstly we got an image duplicated it and flipped it vertically. After we flipped it, we duplicated it a further two times so we had three upside down.
Then we went to filter> distort> ripple on the first upside down image and made the amount 80% at a size of small.
80% medium
80% large
We then added the normal image into flash and turned it into a movie clip, next we pasted the small, medium and large ripple an a separate layer. with the ripple layer we clicked on five on the timeline and pressed F6, the same at 10 and went to properties and swapped the image with medium. then, we swapped the medium for large and pressed F6 on fifteen.
